Mindfulness for entrepreneurs

Mindfulness is about the art of being present in the here and now. You direct your attention, so that you distance yourself from the thoughts in your head. You can concentrate better and relax more easily. Mindfulness originated from a combination of ideas from Buddhism 2500 years ago and insights from more recent Western psychology.

Do you want to do business with less stress and more fun? Then experience for yourself the benefits of working mindfully and practicing mindfulness. At the bottom of this page you will find an attractive offer for the bundle “mindfulness for entrepreneurs”. A combination of sessions, live online meditations, videos and massages.

What positive effects does mindfulness have on entrepreneurs?

  • Those who practice mindfulness have more energy, sleep better, have more rest and live a healthier life.
  • Mindfulness ensures that you are more relaxed, suffer less from stress or depression, you can concentrate better, you have a better memory, are less irritable and more balanced.
  • Practicing mindfulness makes you more sociable, because you become better at forming relationships and you communicate more effectively. You become more authentic, more powerful and have more self-compassion and self-confidence.

The benefits of mindfulness for entrepreneurs

Mindfulness has you calm, makes you more creative and innovative. Mindfulness brings peace to your mind. Rest that you desperately need in this time of continuously new technological inventions and a overload of information. Mindfulness creates space in your brain. You can use that rest for new thoughts, feelings and emotions. That peace also ensures that you can think creatively, which in turn ensures innovative ideas and solutions.

Mindfulness ensures that you communicate more effectively, even when you are under stress. Communication with customers and employees is very important for entrepreneurs. But often you are under (time) pressure. The combination of stress and communication is very unfortunate. The stress parts in the brain become less active thanks to mindfulness. Mindfulness ensures that you suffer less from stress when you are under pressure. As a result, you communicate better, more effectively and more effectively.

Mindfulness creates more focus, so you get more done and are more present for your customers. Information is being fired at you all day long. Within a week you now receive as many stimuli as a hundred years ago in a lifetime. As a result, many entrepreneurs become overworked or burn out. Constantly having something on your mind is at the expense of your quality of life and health. Mindfulness helps you divide your attention and get more focus.

And last but not least: Everyone knows that exercising is healthy. Mindfulness is also a sport: you train your brain with effective results. In addition, it lowers your blood pressure, works just as well as anti-depressants, helps against back pain and chronic complaints.

Newsletter December 2022

Peace in me, in you and in the world

While the Christmas tree in the house is richly decorated, a bloody war is raging not far from us. Last year I often thought about that. I remembered the overwhelming nature and the open-hearted hospitality during my travels to Ukraine.

I looked for ways to to contribute to peace. By reviving old friendships, opening my cottage for temporary shelter and by contributing to fundraisers.
I noticed that inner peace has a positive effect on my own well-being, my relationships with others and my environment. Sri Chinmoyis a source of inspiration for me in achieving inner peace.
We achieve peace when we expect nothing from the world. Just to give, give, give. Giving unconditionally what we have and who we are. – Sri Chinmoy
Every month on Sunday evening I provide an Inner Peace & World Peace Meditation via Meetup. Weekly I guide meditations with movement, breathing or self-touch. Feel free to join us, every Sunday evening at 20:00. Or watch and listen for free one of the meditation I recorded.
I wish you happy holidays. Happy New Year and…. peace on earth!

Yoga and massage, a nice combination
Since the beginning of this year I have organized a monthly yoga and massage evening in Amsterdam.
De Yoga & Massage Explorations is a combination of yoga – where you explore your own body in motion – and massage – where you express the contact with the other through touch. In these evenings, not the technique, but discovering your body is central. We bring together intimacy and creativity, applying investigative, dynamic forms of massage.

Weekends
In November, together with Christian Wicke, I organized a yoga and massage weekend in nature, where there was every opportunity to connect with yourself in a natural environment. The participants were pampered with yoga exercises, with healthy food and with giving and receiving relaxing massages.
Some reactions: “A beautiful weekend from start to finish, thanks in part to the exercises to get used to each other.” “It was nice to be together, to experience contact, in this beautiful place, the pond, the tranquility, the house, the balance between yoga, meditation and massage.” “You both have a nice and soft energy, many thanks for that”.
With Christian Wicke I will again be offering two yoga and massage weekends in 2023: Sat 11 to Sun 12 March 2023 (mixed weekend in Amsterdam)Thu 18 to Sun 21 May 2023 (men's Ascension weekend in Olst)
In 2023, the Yoga & Massage Explorations evenings continued. The monthly Massage Learn & Exchange evenings are (partly) open to all genders, women are also very welcome every other month. This also applies to the cuddle evenings in Amsterdam, which will start soon. And keep up with the announcements in the Meetupgroups Embodied (mixed) and MeninTouchNL (for men).
Gift card
Do you want to give a gift to a friend, colleague or loved one? Then a massage or other treatment is particularly original and nice to receive.
If you purchase a gift card, you immediately receive a € 10,00 to € 30,00 discount, because you pay a lower amount for the gift card than the value. For example, you can buy a gift card with a value of € 80,00 for € 100,00.

Men's one-day event

From the annual ManToManifestation Festival, a one-day festival event for men will be organized on Saturday 17 December 2022 in the heart of Amsterdam.

It will be a day full of workshops and fun. Each of the workshops offered throughout the day is taught by two of the annual festival's facilitators. The facilitators have joined forces to offer duo-facilitated workshops. For example, Tijs Breuer and Franscis Trepels give a workshop here.

The evening ends with an (optional) Potluck community dinner. Food, music and great company. So it's a great opportunity to try out where it's annual ManToManifestation festival of a full weekend. The venue is smaller than the annual festival venue, so only one workshop space is available during the day and a maximum of 35 participants can attend.

Workshop “Together Feeling”

exploring consensual movement & touch by Tijs Breuer and Franscis Trepels

Inspired by the Wheel of Consent (Betty Martin), we are going to explore what our bodies and minds enjoy the most. Most of us don't even know what they really like when it comes to moving our bodies or being touched. Time to discover that in interaction with other men. We combine different yoga postures and massage strokes to find out what feels right for you. With the so-called Bossy massage you are in the leading role while you are touched by another man. We change partners and we touch each other with our hands, arms or other body parts, with and without massage oil. You feel safe, connected and peaceful.

The first step to inner peace

Sri Chinmoy is a source of inspiration for me in achieving inner peace.

Peace is achieved when we expect nothing from the world. Just by giving, giving, giving. Giving unconditionally what we have and who we are.

Sri Chinmoy

According to Sri Chinmoy, no price is too high to pay for inner peace. “Peace is the harmonious mastery of life. It brims with life energy. It is a force that easily transcends all our worldly knowledge. Yet it is not separate from our earthly existence. If we open the right paths within, this peace can be felt here and now. Peace is eternal. It is never too late to be at peace. The time is always right for that. We can really make our lives fruitful if we are not cut off from our source, which is the peace of eternity.”

Who is Shi Chinmoy

Sri Chinmoy was born in 1931 in the village of Shakpura (Bangladesh) and at the age of 12 he entered the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, a spiritual community near Pondicherry in South India. Besides practicing meditation and athletics, he starts writing poetry, essays and spiritual songs. Twenty years later, he moved to New York, where he became famous for his peace concerts. From 1970 until his death in 2007 he accompanied peace meditations at the United Nations. By living from the heart and striving for continuous self-transcendence, he showed how to bring out the best in yourself and find the path to true fulfillment.

We are not indispensable

The first step to inner peace, according to Sri Chinmoy, is to sincerely feel that we are not indispensable. We have no peace of mind because we feel that others need something from us, or that we need something from others. We feel that if we don't do this or say that, the world will collapse or everything will go wrong right away. But the moment we can sincerely feel that we are not indispensable, we have nowhere to go to get peace, because peace will come to us immediately.

stop judging

We would like to live in peace, and in our view the whole world is behaving absurdly. The trick is to let go of these judgments. For when you have an abundant inner peace, you will see that you have the ability to transform the misdeeds of others. In doing so, your inner peace will help to change the face of the world.

From inner peace to world peace

How can inner peace contribute to world peace? “Once we have inner peace, world peace can be achieved in an instant. When we feel a good thought inside, an enlightening and fulfilling thought, we express that same thought and share it with our friends and loved ones. When our enlightening, soulful, fulfilling thoughts enter our loved ones, they too will be at peace. So when we have inner peace, it shows automatically. It spreads its qualities or abilities all over the world.”

Inner Peace Meditations

Every month I provide an Inner Peace & World Peace Meditation via Meetup. The meditation below is inspired by Sri Chinmoy. During this meditation we will reflect on some of his statements.

Metta provides loving kindness

I regularly practice Mettā meditation, to experience more inner peace and tranquility within. Especially when I feel annoyed or angry or if I find myself judging others, it helps me to let go of these feelings and accept others for who they are. The monthly “Inner Peace and World Peace” meditations that I give online are based on Mettā.

Mettā, or loving-kindness meditation, is an expression of what you most deeply desire for yourself, not only for today, but also tomorrow and in the future. You can compare the meditation with a Mantra or Sutra, so a poem that you recite. You consciously dwell on the meaning and let it affect you. You speak simple sentences, large enough and general enough to wish them for all beings everywhere. For example: “May I live in safety. May I be happy. May I be healthy. May I live with ease.” You can create your own “poem” with phrases that work best, they don't have to be the original classical phrases from the Mettā Sutta.

Background

Practicing kindness (mettā bhāvanā) is a popular form of Buddhist meditation. Mettā comes from Pali (Sanskrit: Maitrī) and means benevolence, loving kindness and active interest in others. It is the first of the four sublime states in the meditation of Brahmavihara (the divine abodes). It is also one of the ten pāramīs of the Theravāda school of Buddhism. Metta as 'compassion meditation' is often practiced in Asia through broadcast chanting, where monks chant to the audience.

The principle of compassion and universal loving-kindness concept of Metta is discussed in the Metta Sutta. The backstory for the Mettā Sutta is that a group of monks feared the earth devas in the forest where the Buddha had sent them to meditate. When the monks asked the Buddha for advice on how to deal with the situation, the Buddha taught the monks the Mettā Sutta as an antidote to overcome their fear. The monks recited the sutta and radiated loving kindness. Their good will made the earth devas feel at ease and also kept quiet.

Instruction for Metta meditation

You can start by sitting or lying in a comfortable position and closing your eyes. Sit with your back straight, without being tense or arched. Take a few deep breaths, relax your body.

You can repeat these phrases gently and again, rest your mind on the phrases, and when you find your attention has wandered, don't worry about it. If you find yourself drifting off the lines, see if you can gently bring your thoughts back and start over.

We start by wishing ourselves the best. Repeat the sentences slowly and for a chosen period of time or repetitions:

  • may i be happy
  • May I be healthy
  • May I be free from suffering,
  • May I live in peace
  • May my life be blessed with ease.

You can then think of someone you care about – a good friend, or someone who has helped you in your life, someone who inspires you. You can visualize them, say their name to yourself. Get a sense of their presence and then address the phrases of loving-kindness to them.
May you be happy, may you be healthy, may you be safe,
May you live with ease.

Think of someone you know who is currently having a hard time. They have experienced a loss, a painful feeling, a difficult situation. If someone like that comes to mind, bring them here. Imagine they are sitting in front of you. Say their name. Get a sense of their presence and offer them the expressions of loving-kindness. “May you be happy, healthy, safe and live with ease.”

Think of someone who plays a "neutral" role in your life, a position you don't know very well, or don't have a particular feeling for or against. Maybe the cashier at the supermarket where you shop, the gas station attendant, someone you see regularly. When you think of such a person, imagine that he is sitting in front of you, and offer him the same expressions of loving-kindness. “May you be happy, healthy, safe and live with ease.”

This practice opens us to the ability to include rather than exclude, connect rather than overlook, and care rather than be indifferent, both to ourselves and to others. This pursuit can infinitely extend to all beings in a limitless way, excluding no one: “May all beings be happy, healthy, safe and live with ease.”

Below you will find a video instruction of a Mettā meditation.

Here you will find a video instruction of a Mettā meditation in English.
