Pelvic Fascia Release

Release connective tissue in the pelvic floor

Pelvic Fascia Release is a specialized form of bodywork aimed at opening and releasing myofascial pelvic tissues. These are the muscular connective tissues that support the pelvis and enclose the genitals. It restores the tension balance and suppleness of the connective tissue and restarts the energy flow around the core and pelvic floor muscles.

Do you experience pain or numbness in your genitals, for example during sex, an orgasm or afterwards? Then you're not alone. Or maybe you suffer from it in daily life, for example while driving a car or cycling. Often we are not aware of the moments when we tense our pelvis, while we do this for a long time. Most people don't have much awareness in the pelvic or genital area. We notice tension in the shoulders and neck much faster. We get used to not feeling as much in the genitals or needing more and more friction or stimulation to feel pleasure or sensation.

In many forms of massage and bodywork, the pelvis is skipped. While it is precisely in the pelvic area that release can be so important. In recent exercise science, the importance of a healthy balance between tension and relaxation (tonus regulation) of the pelvic floor is recognized. Until now, both massages and exercises for the pelvic floor have mainly focused on strengthening the muscle layers.

Modern fascia research emphasizes the important role of the elastic collagenous tissues in promoting a resilient and healthy pelvic floor. The importance of a healthy energy flow in the pelvis is often dismissed as vague, even though scientific evidence has been found for this.

Pelvic Fascia Release is a soft, slow and deep touch that causes loosening and relaxation (release) of the (fascia) tissue in the pelvic area and genitals. The tissue is relaxed, soft, supple and pain-free. This ensures that you get more feeling in the pelvic area and your genitals become more receptive to pleasure stimuli.

How Does Pelvic Fascia Release Work?
With myofascial release techniques, adhesions, hardenings and compactions in the muscle connective tissue can melt or loosen. Mild, calm and deep touches, given with full presence and attention, in alignment with you as the recipient, soften your tissue. At the same time, melting and releasing can also take place on an energetic and emotional level.

With the Fascia Release techniques you create healthier tissue that can remove waste products better and absorb more nutrients. Your whole body becomes more vital as a result. When your pelvis and genitals are in optimal condition, you also experience more pleasure in your body. Pelvic Fascia Release can relieve pain or numbness and thus prevent problems in your pelvis and genitals.

Pelvic Fascia Release is suitable for both women and men. Many pelvic floor physiotherapists recognize the effect and added value of such a treatment and refer them to me or to other bodyworkers who give Pelvic Release treatments.

Chronic constipation
Vaginismus and vulval pain

The Pelvic Fascia Release is sometimes also called yoni release or lingam release because the connective tissue of the genitals is also released. The method originates from Myofascial Energetic Release (MER) and has been further developed by, among others, Mariëlle Spronck and Sar Friedman.

My teacher Mariëlle Spronck: “Your pelvis is the core of your being, your base. As you become more aware of this area, you will begin to feel a deeper connection to yourself, to the core of who you are. When the tissue is elastic and flexible again, you will feel more and more and provide more awareness and energy in your pelvis and genitals. Your body will feel more present and alive. Pain and numbness can turn back into pleasure. This helps you feel what you want and clearly express your desires and boundaries. Not only in your intimate life, but also in every other aspect of your life: relationships, friendships and at work.”

Contraindications
If you suffer from the following complaints, a Pelvic Release treatment is not recommended:

  • Rheumatism
  • Cancer
  • Inflammation in the genital area
  • Susceptibility to psychoses
  • Use of antidepressants
  • Recent surgery in the abdominal or pelvic area

How does a session go?
Prior to the treatment, we will discuss what is the reason for you to undergo a Pelvic Release session. What complaints or challenges, what do you hope to achieve with it? We also discuss your limits and sensitivities, so that the session can take place in a safe setting for you. That safe setting is essential so that you can open up to what comes up in the session.

I often start with a short touch or massage of the shoulders, back and neck, so that you get used to my touch and your nervous system can relax. Then the area around the pelvis is gently massaged. Myofascial release techniques are applied in places where there is tension or adhesion. The abdomen, upper legs and groin are also included.

Subsequently, the roots and attachments of the pelvic floor muscles are treated, also with myofascial release techniques. If desired, this will also be done on the genitals and/or the anus. Pelvic Fascia Release involves touching your genitals. This is not about eroticism or generating sexual energy.

Sometimes more time is needed and not all these steps are completed in a single session. This only happens when you, as the receiver and I, as the giver, both feel that you are ready for it.

Afterwards, the session will discuss shortly after and I will ask you to spend some time for yourself in silence. Sometimes I give advice or exercises to do at home following the treatment. In the following days we have contact by e-mail and possibly by telephone to reflect on the session.
