Share your meditation experiences

Do you ever talk to others about your meditation experiences? Many people keep these experiences to themselves because they find it embarrassing to reveal that they meditate regularly. While it can be very useful to share those experiences with others.

Our brains are very good at storing unpleasant and anxious moments to protect us from danger. Putting into words what you experience during meditation can help to strengthen your consciousness. You train your brain to register your emotional world. And you ensure that, in addition to unpleasant and anxious moments, you can also remember pleasant moments better. It is also nice to read the experiences of others, as a source of inspiration and encouragement. Sharing meditation experiences with others can be helpful in several ways.

Some reasons why sharing experiences is useful:

  • It can help to deepen your meditation practice. Talking about your experiences can help you understand them better and integrate them into your daily life. You can also learn from the experiences of others, which can help you gain new insights.
  • It can give you support. Meditation can sometimes be challenging, especially when you're just starting out. It can be nice to talk to others who also meditate. They can support and motivate you.
  • It may inspire others to start meditating too. By sharing your positive experiences with meditation, you can help others discover its benefits.

Some examples of sharing meditation experiences:

  • If you experience certain thoughts or emotions while meditating, it can help to talk to someone about them. This person can help you understand your experiences and deal with any challenges.
  • If you have trouble concentrating while meditating, it may help to talk to someone who has more experience. This person can give you tips on how to improve your concentration.
  • If you're wondering whether meditation is right for you, it may help to talk to someone who is already doing it. This person can tell you about his or her experiences and help you make a decision.

Of course, it is not always necessary to share your meditation experiences with others. If you feel more comfortable keeping them to yourself, that's fine. But if you want to do it, there are many ways to do it. For example, you could talk to a friend or family member, attend a meditation group, or visit an online forum or blog.

What works best for you depends on your personal preferences and needs. At the bottom of this page you can (always) leave a message to share your experiences.

Rainbow Retreat – Yoga and Massage week around the chakras in Spain

"The Rainbow Bridge"

18-25 May 2024
Vejer de la Frontera, Andalusia, Spain

A week to further discover yourself and relax.
Through meditation, yoga and massage we connect you with your subtle energy centers, your chakras.

Tijs and Christian invite you to a retreat in a beautiful place in southern Andalusia. The month of May is an ideal time for this: Everything grows and blooms, while you can be inspired by the beauty, silence and tranquility around you.

The Rainbow Bridge
Indian traditions have recognized several subtle energy centers in the human body, called chakras and symbolized by the colors of the rainbow. The chakras help us to bridge the gap between body and mind and continuously influence how we behave and feel. They are shaped by our life cycle and our experiences. During this week you will learn to better understand and influence the functioning of your chakras. This way you take good care of yourself and become more balanced.

Yoga and massage
We practice various aspects of yoga, including meditation, breathwork and yoga postures – and their effect on the functioning of our chakras. You experience how nice it is to do exercises that give you more energy or calm you down.
The energetic massage forms that we teach you let you feel your chakras on a deeper level and how pleasant touch can be. Contact exercises help with this, to open up in an atmosphere of trust and connection.

**La Casa**
La Cuartilla is situated on a sunny slope with distant sea views, surrounded by native woodlands, gardens and orchards. Within walking distance of the charming town of Vejer de la Frontera, a half-hour drive to the beautiful bays of the Costa de la Luz, nature is brought to life with Permaculture. Beautiful places have been created both indoors and outdoors to do exercises as a group or to be with yourself. The farmhouse, renovated with natural materials, is wonderfully light, spacious and cozy. Organic vegetables from our own garden and the immediate environment clean our body. We eat vegetarian and do not use alcohol or other stimulants.

Why would you choose a male masseur?

It is often the first and most uncomfortable question in a spa: Do you prefer a male or female masseur? This question is not very "woke", but it is still being asked. Different thoughts may be swirling through your head.

For many women, it raises questions about her own body and about safety: will a male masseur be attracted to me? What if I forgot to shave my legs? Soon he will see my pregnancy scars. For many men it makes them self-confident and assertive: is a female masseur strong enough? If I choose a man, will he think I'm gay? What if I get excited?

Actually, this article is somewhat sexist in nature and you cannot say that there are pros and cons between male and female masseurs, only pros and cons between individuals and their talents. But because it is an important consideration for many people, and the most important search terms for my website are the combination “man” and “masseur”, I thought it would be a good idea to ask around about the reason for choosing a male masseur. . Thank you for your candid responses (all of which have been made anonymous).

For me, my religion was the most determining factor in choosing a male masseur. The concept of negiah, which I practice as an Orthodox Jew, limits physical contact between people of the opposite sex who are not related by blood or marriage. Incidentally, Islam also forbids a man to touch a woman who is not in his family, so Muslims, like me, will also opt for a masseur of their own gender (man, 29 years old).

To be honest, when I first came to you, I thought after entering, I should have chosen a female masseur after all. I noticed that I was getting a bit nervous, because I thought you were an attractive man. As a result, I became critical of my own appearance and I was less able to relax in the beginning (woman, aged 62).

My previous masseur was a woman, with her it was like at the hairdresser, I could vent my whole heart and I was chatting during the massage. I chose you because a friend told me that your touch can be loving and gentle as well as with deep pressure. I like that variety and I have not yet found that with a female masseur. The peace and quiet of a man during the massage is actually nicer than all that chatter between women (woman, 35 years old).

The most common reason is that masseurs are stronger and can give a deeper massage.

I exercise intensively and have often been massaged, but what is called a sports massage sometimes looks more like a pet. Especially with female masseurs, too little pressure is applied. Men are generally taller and therefore have more physical strength. That's why I wanted to see if I could get a solid massage from a man. When I came in I was a bit disappointed because you don't look like a big strong man. But still, the pressure was good and I felt the massage work deep into my muscle tissue and after a few massages my sports performance improved (man, 39 years old).

I just like a very firm massage and had been suffering from several stubborn knots for a while. As a physiotherapist I know that this calls for deeper tissue stimulation. Unfortunately, after a solid massage from a fellow physiotherapist, I was in a lot of pain the next few days, so that was a bit too much. I therefore went looking for someone with more massage experience who can give firm massages with care and that is how I ended up with you (woman, 44 years old).

Whether it is true that only male masseurs can work deeper is very much the question. Really good massage is about the way you use your body weight, with leverage. It doesn't matter if you are male or female. You just have to be good at using your whole body while massaging.

I've had several massages with women and while they were good, they just weren't satisfying and the long term effect was limited. I put aside my discomfort about being naked with and being touched by a man. And since then I have nothing but male masseurs, not only with you but also when I am abroad. I prefer deep tissue massages and in my experience male masseurs are not only stronger, but also less restrained and not afraid to put extra force and hang their full weight on me. With you I can let go completely because you always ask me to let you know when it gets too painful. Nowadays I also go naked on the table, because you have also helped me to be more relaxed about nudity among men and to see this separately from sexuality. I now dare to simply enjoy the experience more (man, age 55).

The vast majority of masseurs, also in the Netherlands, are women. It is precisely for this reason that some choose a man.

Since the majority of masseurs are women, men who work in the massage business have to be even better and provide top notch customer service every time to survive. To get a chance, they will have to build up a lot of experience and follow a lot of training. I saw that with you too, with your impressive list of courses and great references. After my first session I was immediately convinced, male masseurs are more professional, friendlier and more caring, they try harder than their female colleagues (female, 46 years old).

Some men expect more empathy from another man than from a woman.

As a roofer I do a lot of physically demanding work. I'm not saying that women can't perform these tasks, but let's face it, this work involves almost only men. That's why I expected more and a better understanding of how I feel after a hard working week from a male masseurs. When I come in and you say: Well, you look like you could use a good back massage, I know I'm in good hands (man, age 53).

The fear of stiff and embarrassing situations can also be an important reason to choose a male masseur.

I never took massages because I was afraid of getting turned on. When I'm being massaged by a man I don't feel sexually attracted. That's why the chance of getting excited seemed to me to be a lot smaller. When my body reacted during the massage by you, you immediately reassured me by indicating that the blood will flow more, also to your private parts. Your relaxed attitude allowed me to relax in it and let the excitement come and go, which was nice (male, age 37).

I have had a massage from a woman a few times over the past few years, on my business trips abroad. Very pleasant, but because of certain touches I quickly became sensually stimulated. This evoked a sense of shame in me, something that I then try to hide so that I could enjoy the massage less. After reading your website I hoped to be able to put this shame aside with a man. And it was indeed pure enjoyment, nice to be able to feel my body so well and to really relax (man, 31 years old).

Prudishness can sometimes be an obstacle to feeling completely free and exposing yourself. Male masseurs who are more open-minded are chosen to be yourself without taboo, even when there is excitement.

The biggest advantage of a man-on-man massage is that I am not covered, which a female masseur always does. Lying naked on the massage table gives me a freer feeling and you can reach my whole body more easily. Women who allow me to be massaged naked don't get close to muscle groups that can cause an erection. This leaves these areas untreated. Often my thighs are tense and this is also a sensitive area. I notice that you as a male masseur have no problem at all with massaging my groin and adductors, even though it turns me on. When I got a little excited with a female masseur, she immediately got upset and very convulsively covered everything right away. What nonsense, that excitement does go away when you go to other body parts (man, 42 years old).

I was very happy to find a male masseur with whom I feel completely comfortable. I'm a straight man who gets turned on quite easily and it's not because I think about sex when I get a massage. If a woman massages me, she'll probably think I want more from her, but my erection means nothing. A man like you knows that it is very normal, it does not matter whether you are gay or straight because I just come for a relaxing massage. Precisely because people are so normal about it and no comment is made when my penis starts to prance now and then, I can relax more. Partly thanks to the fact that you are discreet and everything can be discussed, I have overcome my insecurities and shyness about my high libido (man, 30 years old).

Excitement can also be complicated and distract from relaxation. Then a somewhat more detached attitude like many women is pleasant.

I like massages from both men and women. I am more relaxed with female massage therapists, because I assume that she will not get excited about giving a massage. I'm more wary with a male massage therapist, I was with you in the beginning too. Still I came back, even though there were voices like what does he think of my body? Am I too old? Too heavy? Does he find me attractive? What if he gets excited later? I also thought it was a bit exciting and maybe that's why I came back. You came closer than female masseurs, which was nice but also made me wonder: How close are the hands to my pelvis, to my breasts? I'm not going to get damp later, then the sheet will also get damp. But I could always let it go. And I allow myself to enjoy, including my fantasies (female, age 60).

Attraction can also have a positive effect on the experience of the massage. A male body simply feels different from a female body, so it can make a big difference, especially with more intimate massages.

Many of my girlfriends think it's weird that I go to a male masseur. But it's absolutely okay for a woman to choose that. For years I prefer to go to men for a good massage, it just feels better. I have tried many masseurs over the years and settled on you. I must confess that I feel more comfortable with male than female masseurs, my body reacts differently, more intensely. I'm sure I'm not the only one who prefers to receive touch from the opposite sex. That's how nature works and that's totally okay (woman, age 28).

I am a married woman and I like to be pampered once in a while. Sometimes I'm hungry for a man's touch. By now I trust you with my eyes closed and I just love to feel your firm tight body, muscular arms removing all the stress and pain from my body. I've noticed that I enjoy a man's body touching me more. Male masseurs not only have strong hands and strength. They also generally have more stamina than women. As you know, I prefer to book a 3-hour treatment and I notice how nice it is to notice that you are not tired after 2,5 hours. But most importantly, I love to feel the experience of male hands and a male body against me. It always feels like an adventure to let a man handle his body, for example to feel a bare chest against me (woman, age 56).

I took a full body massage from man to man because I wanted to experience what it's like to have my intimate parts massaged. A man knows better what to do with a penis massage, I think. Moreover, this also seemed exciting to me. It was the first time for me that a man massaged my whole body without missing anything. I wouldn't want that with a woman other than my own wife. Even my prostate was massaged, my penis and entire pelvic area was wonderfully pampered and touched in unexpected ways, which almost brought me to a climax but you stopped just in time. Only a man can do such a mastery, I can recommend it to everyone, but yes, you don't often talk about this at the coffee machine at work. Every time it is super nice to feel strong hands on my oiled body. A man simply knows better what another man likes and what feels good (man, 35 years old).

With home massages, it can be quite a barrier to let a man into your home. Yet I am regularly asked for home treatments, both for men and women.

I wanted to receive a massage at my home but couldn't find a female masseur who offers it. You were recommended by a good friend so at least not a complete stranger, but I was still a little nervous. You came in with the massage table and put it in my bedroom. That felt quite private, especially when I let you shower in my bathroom and then you walked out of the bathroom in your underpants. I lay face down on the table. You took off my socks with warm, firm hands and rubbed my feet warm. The caress of my feet made me feel a soft sensation in my crotch. My whole backside was thoroughly done with a scented oil and firm hands and that sensation only increased. It felt completely different from massages I had received from women. When I had to turn around I tried to calm my boner by thinking about bad things but that didn't help. You reassured me and pressed gently on my chest, stomach and arms. It felt very loving, something I didn't expect from a men's massage. Now I know why many people prefer a male masseur (man, 56 years old).

Reading this last comment, I don't think it's because of my being a man, but more because of the loving attention that makes the experience special. In short: The click with the masseur is very important. But whether the masseur is a man or a woman, it's all in the technique a masseur uses, the attention that is given and the talent they have. I will never try to convince anyone to go to a man and I hope every client realizes that in the end there is no real difference between male and female masseurs.

Take a moment to remember LongCovid Day

15-03-2023 – Today is LongCovid Day. Some people suffer from long-term complaints after a corona infection, also known as Long Covid or Post-Covid. Now that we have all resumed our normal daily lives and the Covid-19 pandemic is officially over, these people are less visible.

One in eight Dutch people have long-term complaints after a corona infection. This is the conclusion of researchers from UMC Groningen and Radboud university medical center after analyzing the health data of 13.000 Dutch people. They compared the complaints of people before and after they had COVID-19.

It concerns a wide range of complaints that can persist for a long time. For example; shortness of breath, fatigue, concentration problems and/or being sick after exercise. The intensity differs per person.

The term 'long' comes from the English word for 'long' and therefore indicates that it concerns long-term complaints. The name therefore does not say that it concerns complaints of the lungs. Below you can read a few recent tweets from people suffering from LongCovid.

What is LongCovid?

LongCovid is a condition with often severe symptoms that can affect many different organs. It occurs after infection with SARS-CoV-2. Symptoms include cardiovascular, respiratory, and neurological. Think of loss of smell and taste, fatigue/exhaustion, cognitive complaints, dizziness, sickness after exercise (PEM), high heart rate when standing up (POTS) and mental complaints such as anxiety. The World Health Organization (WHO) has released an official clinical definition for Long Covid. This condition is called 'Post-Covid-19' by the WHO. Patients often do not belong to a risk group and sometimes led very active lives, as can be seen in the gallery below.

Recovery process

Unfortunately, little is known about an effective healing and recovery process. In my practice I deal a lot with people who suffer from LongCovid. In many cases they benefit from mindfulness and breathing exercises, but often massage can also reduce complaints and even promote recovery.

Why breathing exercises?

You can experience various Post-Covid complaints related to your breathing. Some people have lung damage, but you can also unknowingly exert yourself too much to breathe. As a result, you use more energy. That is extra tiring and you stay tired longer after exercise.

Breathing too fast can also cause tension and anxiety. It is good to start breathing more slowly and breathing exercises can help with that. You can achieve a lot with simple techniques.

If the respiratory muscles are tense all the time, they are much more active than necessary. You use unnecessary energy during quiet activities such as reading or watching a movie. What helps then is to breathe through your nose. And to focus on the exhalation, so that you breathe more relaxed. This also prevents you from breathing in too much air, which can be a cause of fatigue. The production of energy in the cells requires a good balance of carbon and oxygen in the bloodstream.

Simple Breathing Exercise

If you have Long Covid, you can do this simple breathing exercise. With this you observe and slow down the breathing and put your body in a more relaxed position:

  • Breathe in through your nose.
  • Exhale through your nose twice as long.
  • Take a short break before inhaling again.

Do this for a few minutes. This nasal breathing exercise is best done sitting or lying down. Like other muscles, the respiratory muscles can be trained. It is better to practice briefly every day than for an hour once a week. If you're just starting out with breathing exercises, it can feel a bit uncomfortable. If you continue to practice, that feeling will probably go away on its own. Make it as easy as possible for yourself and practice in bed for five minutes in the morning, for example. You are already lying flat, so that the diaphragm can relax better due to gravity.

Relax neck and shoulders

Those who suffer from tension, stress or anxiety often have a tense neck and shoulders. You can experience this after corona. Relaxing your neck and shoulders affects your breathing, because the breathing muscles also relax. This has a positive effect on your energy level and also on your state of mind. A massage can help to make you aware of tension in the neck and shoulders and immediately ensures more relaxation of these muscles.

Breathing exercise during exercise

Speech therapist Hanneke Bax has developed various exercises that can help with the recovery from LongCovid. Do you often get out of breath or become short of breath while speaking? This may be because you started breathing differently in response to previous tightness or pain in the lungs. In this video show speech therapist Hanneke Bax how tiring it is when your breathing doesn't support your voice.

You can find more exercises from her on this page.

Recovery Massage at Long-Covid

The approach to cramps, tension, connective tissue and alertness that is common in Long-Covid can be reduced with a recovery massage, developed by PositiveTouch (School for Holistic Massage and Awareness). A Recovery Massage is aimed at restoring and regaining your own vitality by giving the body space to release tensions and to be able to reset. The massage is especially effective in the connective tissues of the muscles. In the massage, both breathing is reactivated and cortisol production is stabilized. Its own self-healing ability is also activated.

Contraindications for massage

LongCovid has many manifestations and the symptoms differ per person. A deeper understanding of how it affects you as an individual is important to determine which methods of treatment work best for you. You have this conversation with the general practitioner and specialist. It often emerges from these conversations that a massage on a regular basis can be effective, because it stimulates the immune system, it also relieves tension and can therefore contribute to recovery.

But when your body is still actively fighting a virus like Covid-19, or when you go into fight-flight mode as a result of touch, a massage can make things worse. That is why choosing a suitable massage requires careful coordination with the client. You can read more about considering whether or not a massage is desirable in Susan Harrison's article (pdf document).

Peace in me, in you and in the world

While the Christmas tree in the house is richly decorated, a bloody war is raging not far from us. Last year I often thought about that. I remembered the overwhelming nature and the open-hearted hospitality during my travels to Ukraine.

I looked for ways to to contribute to peace. By reviving old friendships, opening my cottage for temporary shelter and by contributing to fundraisers.
I noticed that inner peace has a positive effect on my own well-being, my relationships with others and my environment. Sri Chinmoyis a source of inspiration for me in achieving inner peace.
We achieve peace when we expect nothing from the world. Just to give, give, give. Giving unconditionally what we have and who we are. – Sri Chinmoy
Every month on Sunday evening I provide an Inner Peace & World Peace Meditation via Meetup. Weekly I guide meditations with movement, breathing or self-touch. Feel free to join us, every Sunday evening at 20:00. Or watch and listen for free one of the meditation I recorded.
I wish you happy holidays. Happy New Year and…. peace on earth!

Yoga and massage, a nice combination
Since the beginning of this year I have organized a monthly yoga and massage evening in Amsterdam.
De Yoga & Massage Explorations is a combination of yoga – where you explore your own body in motion – and massage – where you express the contact with the other through touch. In these evenings, not the technique, but discovering your body is central. We bring together intimacy and creativity, applying investigative, dynamic forms of massage.

Weekends
In November, together with Christian Wicke, I organized a yoga and massage weekend in nature, where there was every opportunity to connect with yourself in a natural environment. The participants were pampered with yoga exercises, with healthy food and with giving and receiving relaxing massages.
Some reactions: “A beautiful weekend from start to finish, thanks in part to the exercises to get used to each other.” “It was nice to be together, to experience contact, in this beautiful place, the pond, the tranquility, the house, the balance between yoga, meditation and massage.” “You both have a nice and soft energy, many thanks for that”.
With Christian Wicke I will again be offering two yoga and massage weekends in 2023: Sat 11 to Sun 12 March 2023 (mixed weekend in Amsterdam)Thu 18 to Sun 21 May 2023 (men's Ascension weekend in Olst)
In 2023, the Yoga & Massage Explorations evenings continued. The monthly Massage Learn & Exchange evenings are (partly) open to all genders, women are also very welcome every other month. This also applies to the cuddle evenings in Amsterdam, which will start soon. And keep up with the announcements in the Meetupgroups Embodied (mixed) and MeninTouchNL (for men).
Gift card
Do you want to give a gift to a friend, colleague or loved one? Then a massage or other treatment is particularly original and nice to receive.
If you purchase a gift card, you immediately receive a € 10,00 to € 30,00 discount, because you pay a lower amount for the gift card than the value. For example, you can buy a gift card with a value of € 80,00 for € 100,00.

Men's one-day event

From the annual ManToManifestation Festival, a one-day festival event for men will be organized on Saturday 17 December 2022 in the heart of Amsterdam.

It will be a day full of workshops and fun. Each of the workshops offered throughout the day is taught by two of the annual festival's facilitators. The facilitators have joined forces to offer duo-facilitated workshops. For example, Tijs Breuer and Franscis Trepels give a workshop here.

The evening ends with an (optional) Potluck community dinner. Food, music and great company. So it's a great opportunity to try out where it's annual ManToManifestation festival of a full weekend. The venue is smaller than the annual festival venue, so only one workshop space is available during the day and a maximum of 35 participants can attend.

Workshop “Together Feeling”

exploring consensual movement & touch by Tijs Breuer and Franscis Trepels

Inspired by the Wheel of Consent (Betty Martin), we are going to explore what our bodies and minds enjoy the most. Most of us don't even know what they really like when it comes to moving our bodies or being touched. Time to discover that in interaction with other men. We combine different yoga postures and massage strokes to find out what feels right for you. With the so-called Bossy massage you are in the leading role while you are touched by another man. We change partners and we touch each other with our hands, arms or other body parts, with and without massage oil. You feel safe, connected and peaceful.
