Intake and introduction for massage or bodywork

Every massage treatment and every form of bodywork is different, because as much as possible is connected to your needs and wishes. An intake and introduction is intended to map out your wishes, needs, possible complaints and limitations. Are you coming for a massage for the first time? Then there is always an intake and introduction. The introduction can take a short (a few minutes) or a little longer (15 minutes), depending on the reason and the type of treatment. An intake and introduction is often combined with a trial treatment.  

Do you come for a massage because you have (physical) complaints?

Then the intake interview will mainly be about your health. The questions that are asked are about your current medical condition and the development of recent times. A massage can focus on addressing the causes or relieving pain. In other cases, certain areas on the body should be avoided. In addition, it can be useful to know more about your lifestyle

Are you coming for relaxation, rest or to enjoy?

In that case the intake interview focuses on your needs, also on your needs. Sometimes you will be asked about the background, your actual or underlying needs. Often you are also asked about your expectations and previous experiences with massage.

Do you come for a tantra massage or other energetic treatment?

Among other things, with a tantra massage, but also with a pelvic floor or hugging treatment, there is intimate proximity. (Sexual or life) energy and emotions can be generated. And often the whole body is touched, including the erogenous zones. This only happens after you have given permission. It is also important for the masseur to know what your limits are. Where do you and where do you not like to be touched? And what are your experiences so far with such forms of intimacy?

Do you know what your limits are?

In preparation you can check with yourself what prompted you to make an appointment for a massage. And also consider what you especially like and dislike. If you don't know exactly what your limits are, you can indicate that too. For example, a code word can be agreed upon, which you pronounce when something does not feel comfortable. The masseur will also indicate his limits if necessary. For example, that no sexual acts are performed and that touch of the masseur is limited. We therefore make clear agreements in advance, both about mental and physical boundaries. It is also a misconception that you and the masseur are always naked during a tantra massage. That too is a mutual choice.

Back or partial massage

Do you need a shorter massage, with special attention for a certain body part? Then there are various possibilities. Many people opt for a shoulder and back massage, due to physical complaints of tension and stiffness at the top or bottom of the back. But you can also opt for a massage of legs, feet, head / face, joints or the chest and stomach. 

What effect does a shoulder and back massage have?

A back, neck and shoulder massage ensures that your muscles relax and that your tendons and connective tissue remain flexible. The tension between your shoulder blades and in the neck area is reduced, reducing any pain in the shoulders and making you feel more flexible. Work stress, worries and social pressure often lead to considerable muscle tensions and cramps in the shoulder area. We take too many "monkeys on the shoulder". And we want to meet expectations of ourselves and others. If you do not tackle these tensions and frequently overload your muscles, persistent pain will eventually develop. For example, headache complaints can arise because the muscles in the neck, back and shoulders are too tense and eventually harden and form muscle knots. The pain area then radiates to other areas of the body. Overuse of the long back muscle and an overly tight attachment of this muscle to the vertebrae often causes pain in the lower buttocks. A back and shoulder massage makes you aware of these tensions and ensures that the muscles relax. 

Does a back massage also help with complaints in the lower back?

Complaints in the lower back can have various causes. Often it will pass after some time, but a massage can provide relief in the meantime. The cause of back pain is unclear for 90-95%. Lower back pain does not necessarily have to be caused by a hernia. It can suddenly fall in when the back is overloaded, a quick movement or sometimes due to stress. Usually there is nothing serious wrong and there is no demonstrable disease or damage causing the pain. 

It often happens that the “problem area” is not the back at all, but it is due to the gluteus medius, a gluteal muscle. By combining a back massage with a massage of your glutes, the cramping disappears. This is also called sciatica, after the large sciatic nerve: sciatic nerve. It is often a nagging, pulling muscle pain, tingling, burning or numbness. Irritation or pinching of the great sciatic nerve is mentioned as a cause of sciatica. On the way from the spine through the buttock to the leg, there are many places where the nerve could become pinched. Often a muscle or tendon that is too tight is the cause, which can easily be remedied with a relaxing massage.

If you continue to suffer from back problems, more complaints can arise because your posture changes. You go crooked or compensate the pain by tightening elsewhere, causing overload.

What effect does a leg massage have?

A leg massage is useful for every athlete, because the blood circulation is improved and waste products such as lactic acid are removed. This improves sports performance. But a leg massage is also useful if you suffer from varicose veins, swollen legs / feet or poor circulation in the legs. And pregnant women benefit greatly from a leg massage, because complaints such as swollen feet, ankles and legs are reduced. Especially after standing for a long time, fatigue and a heavy, painful, stinging or itching feeling often develops. Pregnant women also often suffer from leg and calf cramps or restless legs, which can be treated with a leg massage. A leg massage stimulates the self-healing capacity of your legs. 

What is a joint massage?

A joint massage focuses on one or more joints of the arms (shoulder, elbow, wrist) and legs (hip, knee, ankle). It is a combination of quietly moving the joints and a gentle massage around the joints. A subtle massage, which is also good for older people. This loosens the joints and the surrounding tissue, giving more space, flexibility and freedom of movement.

What effect does a breast massage have?

A breast massage is not only important for women. In men it increases the flow of lymph and blood to the cells and brings the cells oxygen and vital nutrients. The area of ​​the chest, armpits and heart is one big erogenous zone, where there is a lot of feeling. Your heart chakra opens up through the right touch.

What is a foot massage?

A foot massage is a special treatment against all kinds of complaints. The idea behind a so-called “foot reflex massage” is that your feet are a reflection of your body. Illness is a signal that there is a disturbed harmony in the unity of body and mind. You can restore this harmony with a foot reflex massage. By means of various types of massage techniques, blockages are lifted and your body is able to heal itself.

Men and useful aggression

Aggression is something that we learn at an early age. With the curbing of our aggression, we also lose part of our life energy and our enthusiasm. The aggression goes underground and appears to some at unexpected moments, as an unguided projectile. 

Jung: It is much better to acknowledge the temptation and to surrender to her violence than to try to escape it by means of all kinds of intellectual artifice or emotional judgments. 

Have you, like many of us, suppressed your aggression? Then get to know your primeval man and then tame it. What we refuse to acknowledge about ourselves will always find a way out, sometimes in tragic form. The aggression gets a free hand in our subconscious because we have denied it access to our consciousness. By suppressing our aggressive energy, it gains the power to possess us and to erupt. Because we refuse to “have” aggression, aggression “has” us. If we find an acceptable outlet for it, aggression takes on a healthy, playful form and gives us strength and joy in life.  

Our challenge is to become aware of our aggressive nature. Not by reaching for violence, but by allowing and expressing this inner energy. That awareness allows us to control this force. Repressing your aggression leads to violence, while the awareness of your aggression can give you “power”, decisiveness and perseverance. 

How can we transform aggressive energy, which often manifests itself in the form of hostile behavior and inner anger? 

By examining your negative feelings and irritations, you can find out in which situations you have suppressed aggression. During a body-oriented coaching session there is plenty of room to open up to your fantasy and look at your inner turmoil without prejudice. You can also express this emotion through movement, sound and breathing. The emotion seems magnified at first, but that is why it “takes a closer look”. Truly living it through means a milestone in their lives for many men. You explore its origins and discover what your true need is, which has been compromised. It provides guidance to be more in touch with your aggressive side. You gain a foothold in reality and you know how to relate to the world and its violence differently. 

Strength measurement during a treatment?

During a treatment we can safely experiment with our bodies, our strength and physical contact. This can be done individually, as part of a playful “hug treatment“. Also with tantra I often work with playful force measurements as an introduction or interruption of the massage. Many men experiment with strength and power in the form of bondage / BDSM. I do not offer this myself, but I can refer this to colleagues.  

What is Playfight?

You can playfully experiment with your strength and aggressive energy with an opponent, with a group of men, in the form of a "Playfight". In a playfight ritual, the circle of attentive viewers is central. Watching the game is at least as important as the 1-on-1 confrontation with a self-chosen opponent, which takes place in the middle. You have a direct connection with your opponent and him in his vulnerability, dedication, beauty and strength. Usually the ritual ends with a joint contact or relaxation exercise.

Fort Maarsseveen

The Maarsseveen fort is one of the last 'forts' of the New Dutch Waterline, built in 1881 to close the access over the Maarsseveense canal. The “Work” had a staff of 80 men. Only the bombproof building of the original work exists; the earthen walls and the wooden outbuilding have disappeared over the years. Next to the Werk, the older fort watchman's house has been preserved. Activities such as dance, theater, music, film and visual arts are organized in the fort.
